$15 Million Best Western Hotel opens in Port-au-Prince

The Best Western Premier, the first Haitian hotel with a US chain affiliation and the first Best Western Premier in the Caribbean, opened its doors on March 28 to welcome its first visitors.

Located in the prestigious Petion-Ville area, the hotel has a modern style and was designed for the business traveler. The seven story facility has 106 guest rooms equipped with flat screen TVs, wireless Internet, pool, room service, gym, spa, restaurants, and other amenities.

"We are very excited and privileged to open the newest full service hotel on the beautiful island of Haiti," stated Aimbridge senior vice president of Caribbean operations and development, Rich Cortese. "We have hired and trained through the Aimbridge and Best Western training platforms 95 new employees, the majority of them local residents, along with a seasoned management staff."

The prices of the hotel are not the most affordable, with room rates between $309 and $709 a night, and one way airport transfer as much as $50.

The hotel is much needed considering Haiti's desire to revive its tourism industry. Haiti has only 3,000 guest rooms compared to the Dominican Republic, which has 60,000 rooms to accommodate its tourists.
